Why We Are Reforesting Kenya

31% of the world’s land mass are covered in forest (Earth Policy Institute, 2012). Kenya, however, is a country with as little as 6.1% forest cover (Mongabay).

This makes Kenya one of the least forested countries in the world. Tanzania, Kenya’s direct neighbor, boasts a forest cover of about 40%.

Time to do something about it! (About reforesting Kenya. Let’s not chop down trees in Tanzania.)

In addition to increasing the forest cover in Kenya, which the entire planet benefits from, reforesting Kenya has various others environmental and social benefits to it.

Environmental Benefits of Reforesting Kenya

One fact to bear in mind when booking your holidays in Kenya: All land-based animals in the country depend on trees to survive. Whether you’re looking out for rhinos, lions, cheetahs, giraffes or majestic elephants – none of these species would survive without trees. No trees -> no life -> no wildlife safaris.

Which is why we took to reforesting Kenya in autumn 2018. Besides planting trees for tuskers, our reforestation efforts benefit a huge variety of wildlife, including lions, rhinos, cheetahs, leopards, zebras, antelopes, giraffes and whole lot of others.

Furthermore, trees prevent land erosion, and are hence the most efficient weapon against desertification. And, even better, planting trees brings along several social benefits as well.

Social Benefits of Reforesting Kenya

Not just the Kenyan environment benefits from our reforestation efforts. In good old Click A Tree tradition we ensure the local community profits from our engagement as well. When planting trees in Kenya, we mainly work with volunteers such as scholars on environment-focused master studies. We also include local schools in our reforestation projects, to educate the youngest in our society on the importance of the environment and nature conservation.
