Owais started out as an accountant in the small town of Miawali in Punjab, Pakistan. Despite working long hours every day, he struggled to support those who depend on him: his wife, three children, and parents.

Although Owais has known the Internet for some time, he only got access to it two years ago. He realized he had a golden opportunity to find work outside of his small town. The beginning wasn’t easy, because at that point Owais only spoke Urdu – in order to find work he had to learn English.

He persevered and at the same time learned English and IT basics while continuing his work as an accountant. His breakthrough came when he registered as a freelancer with the Fiverr portal, where he offered his services as a graphic designer. There he met Chris.

Chris recognized Owais’ willingness to learn right away and gave him the chance to develop the skills he needed for his new career. This meant giving Owais more time to complete tasks, mentoring him, and giving him the opportunity to solve problems while learning.

Social Impact: Charting a New Future

For Owais, working with Click A Tree has made a real difference in his life. He still works incredibly hard: 16 to 20 hours per day. But now the money he earns goes towards sending his children to a better school to give them the education they need for a better start in life. 

Now that he’s getting more work, Owais has set up a small team to help him. Thus, our cooperation triggered a chain reaction that created several jobs.

He was also finally able to fulfill a lifelong dream: taking part in the Hajj, an annual Islamic pilgrimage to Mecca. This was the first flight of his life and his first trip outside of Pakistan – milestones that would not have been possible before.

However, he has not lost sight of his goal: to develop professionally. He knows that to be successful he has to keep learning: “Things change day by day – we have to keep improving.” Owais’ next goal is to become a Python developer because he knows it will open up new opportunities for him.
